Arlington County police are investigating the second reported carjacking of the summer.
A woman was carjacked on 19th Street N. in the Colonial Village neighborhood just before 5 p.m. last night (Monday), according to ACPD. The suspect, a man in his 20s, allegedly approached the woman, made threats, and stole her keys and wallet before driving off.

The Arlington County Courthouse has begun allowing visitors to carry cellphones, laptops and other electronics inside, lifting a longstanding ban on the devices.
The change went into effect on July 1 in compliance with a new state law. Devices had previously been banned in the courthouse, requiring visitors who arrived with devices to secure them in lockers on the ground floor of the Arlington County Jail.
Arlington apartment rents declined year-over-year in August but are up 3.5% since the start of 2026, according to new data.
The median rental price for an apartment countywide was $2,460 for one-bedroom units, $2,973 for two bedrooms and $2,612 overall, according to figures reported Aug. 26 by Apartment List.

Payday for Local NatSec Firm — The founders of Arlington-based Fairfax National Security Solutions could see a major windfall as Dallas-based AIAI Holdings folds the defense consulting firm into its publicly traded umbrella. Post Office Boosts Security — The Clarendon post office has installed an automated entry system, allowing customers to once again enter the lobby after hours by scanning a QR code. The post office previously ended overnight access, citing issues with individuals relieving themselves and vandalizing the lobby.
Sheriff or Police Department? — Columnist Bill Fogarty traces the split between the Arlington County Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office. Metro Escalator Speed Explained — Washingtonian looked into a Reddit debate over whether Metro’s escalators are unusually slow. Metro says they run at the national safety-code standard of 100 feet per minute, matching Philadelphia and San Francisco. A private inspector said that’s at the top of the typical range. Confederate Statues Come Down — Crews removed the last three Confederate monuments from Capitol Square in Richmond on Friday. Former state Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria), who sponsored the removal bill, rejected the argument that it erases history. “It’s just about who we choose to put on the front page,” he said. [Washington Post]
Labor Day Lane Closures Lift — VDOT will suspend most highway work zones and lift lane closures on interstates and other major roads statewide from noon Friday, Sept. 4, until noon Tuesday, Sept. 8. Some semi-permanent work zones will remain in place. [Press Release]

William F. Sullivan, 87, passed away on July 25, 2026, at Goodwin House Alexandria in Virginia.
Bill was born to Helene O’Neill Sullivan and Joseph David Sullivan and raised in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he graduated from the Fairfield College Preparatory School. His college years were spent at Duquesne University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English, History and Education.
A native of Arlington made history at this year’s Miss USA pageant, becoming the first married woman and mother to win the title.
Justus Kelley, senior philanthropic advisor at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and founder of the nonprofit Foster Footprints, claimed the crown last week in Miami and will compete in the Miss Universe pageant in November.
