McCormick & Schmick’s seafood restaurant closes in Crystal City

The McCormick & Schmick’s location in Crystal City has shut its doors for good.

The seafood restaurant and steakhouse closed on Sunday after more than two decades at 2010 Crystal Drive. As of today (Wednesday), crews had already stripped the storefront of all signage and were repainting parts of the exterior.

“We regret to inform you this location has closed,” a sign in the window says. “We are grateful for the support of our community and encourage our guests to visit us at our sister locations nearby.”

These include Morton’s The Steakhouse at 1750 Crystal Drive, Chart House in Alexandria, The Oceanaire in D.C. and other establishments in the D.C. area.

McCormick and Schmick’s is an upscale chain run by Houston-based Landry’s Inc., specializing in fresh seafood such as swordfish, mahi mahi, salmon and oysters, in addition to filet mignon, ribeye and other steaks.

Two years ago, Landry’s closed another location on K Street in D.C. after its lease expired.

The only McCormick and Schmick’s remaining in the D.C. area is in National Harbor. The business’s website lists a total of 14 locations across the country.

It’s unclear what led to the closing in Crystal City. Landry’s could not be reached for comment by ARLnow.

In a statement to the Washington Business Journal, Landry’s Chief Operating Officer Shah Ghani did not indicate the rationale behind the decision. He said the restaurant chain will help employees transition to nearby restaurants.
